Staying Focused on Your Goals
Now that you have been transported into a brand new setting, you will need to be exceptionally diligent and focused in order to accomplish your goals, whether it be academics or career-related. Of course, you should be focused on the present moment, making the most of this opportunity and putting yourself in a place to succeed. Are you hoping to gain a certain level of fluency in another language? Do you want to gain networking experience in your global internship? Set goals early on and make a plan to accomplish those goals.
When setting goals, remember to make them SMART: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Specific. Before you go on your experience, you should have set some goals for yourself, but remember that goals can (and probably will) change. Throughout your experience, reflect on your progress and goals, stay accountable to yourself, and set new goals or alter existing ones. Create a space to keep track of your goals and reflect by journaling or checking in regularly with a friend.
In addition, don’t forget about the responsibilities that await you upon returning home.
